Fall 2012 Trends featuring Jermaine Cunningham

Featured model and loyal 9tailors client: Jermaine Cunningham of the New England Patriots

With the start of football comes the beginning of fall. Yay for Autumn! We're here to tell you about the trends you should look out for this season. Just look at the dapper Mr. Cunningham... yes sir.

FALL 2012 TRENDS

Double-breasted Suits.

Milan's runways lent themselves to slim double-breasted suits and animal-print sweaters. Yes, gentlemen, double-breasted is making a major comeback. Single-breasted remains a stiff contender, however.

The Three-Piece Suit.

If you haven't visited  9tailors before, you know not of our love for the three-piece. GQ calls this out as the Fall must-have. And why not? It looks great with all three pieces showing and when you take your jacket off to showcase that sharp vest. And to reiterate, gray is the best versatile color out there. Seen below on Jermaine—wicked shahhhhp.

If you already have enough suits in your closet but need that vest for a finishing touch, you can always opt to get one in a complementary color. Gray suit? Go for a navy vest. Brown suit? Try a tan vest. Or if you're feeling frisky, try a checked or pin-stripe pattern to give some oomph to your ensemble.

Conversation-Starting Shoes

Shoes that make a statement, according to NYMag, are in this Fall. Check the foot-candy on Jermaine!
Now, this is a touchy subject, some of the shoes on the runways are obviously not conservative enough for business meetings and the like, but you can dress up your feet with a bit of pizazz just in detail or texture, rather than going all out on funky designs and colors that scream.

Shearling Coats

Did you see The Dark Knight Rises? Did you notice how dope Bane's jacket was? We'll be seeing lots of faux-fur lined jackets and shearling coats this fall. Think grungy, lumberjack, living-in-the-woods-and-being-a-man's-man. Not to mention, a coat like this looks badass paired with a suit or jeans.

Patterns! Knit ties!

Autumn is the best time of year to play with textures and patterns. Remember our post on knit ties a few months back? You'll be seeing more of these around as well.

What does Esquire have to say? Echoing the sentiments above, they've highlighted nine top designer collections in this wonderful slideshow. See how your wardrobe stacks up.

Weekend Getaway Part II: NYC

Last time, as a part of our series of Weekend Getaway posts, we gave tips for men and women going on a Cape Cod/beach weekend getaway.

This week, we will be focusing on a city only a few hours away: NYC!

What could be better than visiting the city that never sleeps for a weekend?

Visiting the city that never sleeps in a 9tailors shirt, of course!

We have a variety of sophisticated colors as well as fabrics with metallic details and sheen finishes, perfect for a night out on the town.

Try a lavender or blue with a light tonal stripe or add extra style by using a contrasting fabric for the cuffs and collar!

Below are a few suggestions:

white, blue, or...orange dress shirts?

so, the other day, i was doing my usual online browsing and i stumbled upon an interesting article by The New York Times entitled, " For Men's Shirts, It's Bright Colors And Bold Patterns." in the article it claimed that men were choosing brighter, bolder shirts - think crazy stripes and checkered patterns. ok, sure the article is a little dated (ahem, published in 2003), but it got me thinking about men and their choices in dress shirts. what should a man have in his dress shirt collection?

while it is great to see men being more fashion-forward, selecting unconventional colors and patterns, in my opinion, nothing beats a crisp, white shirt (this also goes for women too). while some argue that fair skinned individuals should not wear white because it does not enhance their skin tone and hair color, i believe that white shirts are classic, professional, and effortless (meaning you can just put on the white shirt and pants, and go).

blue is also another closet essential. blue is probably the most flattering shirt color that anyone can own. most men can wear a medium blue. if you have a warmer, darker skin tone, you can get away with darker blues. and, if you have a fairer skin tone, you can wear lighter blues.

what about bolder colors? bright greens, pastels, oranges, and reds? i once had a manager who wore a shiny red shirt to work (think disco) and it definitely worked on him. but, if you are less adventurous, i would recommend starting with the pink shirt. personally, i love pink shirts (no, not the brand, but the color). if you are a pink dress shirt virgin, i would recommend starting with a lighter shade. wear it under a blazer, sweater, or suit. according to a Men's Health article, women are drawn to men wearing pink. i totally agree.

stripes, checks, and other patterns...so many to choose from. but, if it looks like something from that book, The Magic Eye, i would stay clear away from it. you wouldn't want onlookers to suffer from eye strain, now, would you? i would pick simple designs with simple colors (under 3 colors are probably the best).

with all of that said, practice good judgment when selecting dress shirts for your work or play wardrobe. if in doubt, go to 9tailors.com (once our website is up and running, you can get your questions answered through our style help.) or ask a girl friend.

oh, by the way, only 25 days to our website launch!
