Thinking warm weather thoughts...

We were so thrilled when we received these photos from the talented ladies at Studio Nouveau. With the blustery nor'easter and frigid temps, it was very sweet of them to take us back to summer through their images of David and Julie.

Several months ago, we had the pleasure of working with David and Julie on their Cape wedding. What a fantastic couple to work with! They were so excited for their low-key, casual affair. And, we couldn't be happier that they wanted to work with us.

Having broad shoulders and athletic build, David was most concerned about the cut. In his words, he wanted a "better fit" for his suit. He was looking for a suit that was tailored, yet comfortable enough for him to move around in at the wedding.

David was also interested in finding the right material. Because their wedding took place on the beach in August, heat was a factor. We chose a beautiful, light-weight wool that breathed well. David also wanted the suits to reflect his fun personality. As David says, custom "allowed me to put a personal touch on the suit." While David monogrammed his suit with his wedding date, the two groomsmen personalized each of their suit jackets with the phrases, "I need it for hockey" and "You all right?".

David's best advice? "Don't cut corners and buy lower quality clothes."

We couldn't agree more.

Thank you Studio Nouveau for the gorgeous images. Special thanks to David and Julie for sharing your special day with us! Congratulations again!

Meet Brandon: Our Dashing Groom in Midnight Blue

Meet Brandon. Brandon recently got married earlier this year and we wanted to share his beautiful photos with you!

Name: Brandon
Age: 30
Hometown: Stoughton, MA
Current Residence: Boston, MA
Occupation: Financial Analyst

Why choose custom?
The fit is unmatched. If you are fairly thin with broad shoulders then finding clothes at a department store that fits is nearly impossible. Even those that claim to be "slim fit" still look boxy. Going custom means the suit or shirt is made to measurement to fit your body. The icing on the cake is the customization. There are so nearly unlimited fabrics, colors and details that you can personalize to your own taste and make your item truly unique.

What would be your style advice to men in your professional field?

Proper fitting shirts and suits can change your whole appearance. People take notice when someone puts the time and thought into presenting themselves well. The whole point of formal and even business casual attire is to look professional. If you are wearing clothes that doesn't fit you properly then you really don't project the professional image that was intended whether to outside clients or colleagues.

What/who inspires your style? Why?

For my wedding, the inspiration to my custom tuxedo was certainly James Bond. Specifically, Daniel Craig in Skyfall wore a midnight blue tuxedo that I borrowed from heavily. I wanted a formal formal look without appearing too stuffy and 9tailors nailed it!

What is your favorite piece from 9tailors?

The midnight blue tuxedo is phenomenal. I had a vision in my head and it came out even better than I could have imagined. For everyday use though, I have a gray herringbone tweed sport coat that is my go to jacket in the fall. The fit is great and there is lavender accenting under the lapel.

How difficult is it to find garments that targets your specific needs and style?

Very. The reality is everyone's body is different so trying to find something fits your personal style AND fits your body is nearly impossible. Truly like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Meet Stuart and Kate!

What are your names?
Stuart Terrett and Kate Gasaway

When and where was the big day?
14 April 2013, Savannah, GA

How was the weather?
Overcast; 60s; held indoors

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
I wanted something that would actually fit, and I wanted something that is harder to find off the shelf. Knowing that picking something and having it altered would be as much work as simply having it made, and being able to get a matching jacket and have a suit afterwards tipped the equation.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
It was great - I spent 45 minutes picking out fabrics and getting measured. Then I was done! Kate spent 8 hours trudging from bridal shop to bridal shop trying on dresses with clips holding them together. I definitely had the better deal.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
The best part of the wedding weekend was before the wedding day when I got to hang out with the members of the wedding party. They're what made the whole experience fun.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Do it. It's easy, they'll fit perfectly, and the math is pretty simple - getting something off the rack and having it altered is just as expensive and won't be as good.

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.
Probably the one of me picking her up. It was fun.

Meet Greg and Genoa!

What are your names?
Bride: Genoa Polumbo
Groom: Greg Polumbo

Where and when was the big day?
7/7/12, San Diego, CA

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
Sunny and perfect, outdoors, 5pm

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
Greg has longer-than-normal arms, and he's tall but not wide, so he has a hard time finding clothes that fit well. A friend had his wedding suit made with 9tailors, so we decided to do it, too!

What was the best part of your wedding day?
All of it! Our officiant was awesome, the weather was beautiful. We had friends and family come from near and far, it was fun and colorful, and everything went off perfectly.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
Alex helped us through all of the decisions and it was really easy and fun. Making each decision separately (eg cuff buttons) helped a lot. We made a beautiful suit for Greg for our wedding.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Go to 9tailors!

June 23, 2012

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
Everything was indoors except the cocktail hour, which was both indoors and outdoors. The weather was partly to mostly cloudy, with temperatures in the low 70s. There was a chance of rain in the forecast, but the rain held off, and the clouds cleared in the evening. Since we were right around the summer solstice, we actually took our photos after dinner while the band was taking a break. The sun had not yet set and the natural light was spectacular.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
We had been given a recommendation and we got a deal through Gilt City. We had always wanted to go with custom suits, but the cost had been preventative until we found the Gilt deal. We had wanted light tan color suits but did not have any luck finding the right suit off-the-rack, and most other custom options were far too expensive.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
We had a great experience. We had a pretty clear vision from the start, so the 9tailors team mostly made some minor suggestions but certainly provided solid guidance on what details would be worth the extra cost. It was nice to have flexibility with groomsmen choosing their own "add ons." We decided on three-piece suits (the vests were a gift from the groom) in a lightweight Italian wool. The color was between ivory and light khaki - almost like cookie dough. We got custom patterned linings/piping and horn buttons to add some flair.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
The ceremony - everything came together wonderfully: the setting was exactly what we had pictured, the minister did a great job, the readings and music were phenomenal... it all just felt right.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
The process can be great, but it is best if you have some ideas of your own before you start. Find some pictures of the look that you are going for. Get the details before you make any decisions: the timeline for fitting/ordering/alterations, and the specifics of the costs - and be sure to pass these details along to the bridal party with good communication. Be sure to be cost-conscious because even if you think it is a great outfit, bridal party members may have different tastes, and they are already going to be spending a lot of money on your bachelor party, wedding accommodations, gift, etc.

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.
We love the photo of the entire bridal party on the covered bridge because everyone is together and the colors and style really pop out against the dark rustic background. This is clearly a group of happy people having a great time on a beautiful day in Vermont.

Meet David and Dan!

What are your names?
David Rogers & Dan Ferrell

Where and when was the big day?
October 20, 2012 at the Harvard Faculty Club, Cambridge, MA

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
Beautiful. 71 degrees and sunny. A perfect fall day and a beautiful day to have an outdoor wedding.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
I decided to go with 9tailors because I knew I didn't want to rent my tux and I wanted to perfect tux for my wedding. I figured I would have to have any tux I bought tailored to fit me perfectly so I thought - why not have a tux actually made to fit me perfectly the first time around.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
I came to 9tailors with a picture and Alex took it from there. It was so nice to have someone knowledgeable about style and fit. I trusted Alex from day one. The service was great and I couldn't be more happier with my tuxedo. Thank you 9tailors.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
Having it outdoors. We had always anticipated having the ceremony inside since it would be so late in October. But the weather cooperated and by 12:00 that afternoon the chairs were moved outside. It couldn't have been a more beautiful day. We had an a cappella group from Harvard sing during the ceremony which we kept as a surprise from our guests. They were fantastic and added so much to the day.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Trust the folks at 9tailors. They really listened to my ideas and what I liked. They are professionals so when I had a question I just asked them what they thought and they didn't steer me wrong.

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.
I think they are all my favorite. I keep replaying the day over and over again in my mind and I tried hard to take it all in. But I really like the one with that just shows are legs (and my red socks).

Meet Erica and Andrew!

What are your names?

Bride: Erica DeRosa
Groom: Andrew Teman

Where and when was the big day?

The big day was October 20th, 2012. We bought out Sam's, the restaurant above the Louis Boston building right down on Fan Pier overlooking the Boston Harbor.

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?

When you plan a wedding for late October in Boston, you need to assume that it's going to be a blizzard and plan for the worst. We had great outdoor deck space to use, but just couldn't depend on it, so we planned for an all-indoor affair. By some miracle, it turned out to be 70 degrees (at night) and everyone was outside the entire time. It was fantastic.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?

I'm a slim guy, and I'm also not super tall. Off the rack suits just never had the right fit for me, and the idea of custom just seemed like the right thing to do for my big day. I had some co-worker friends (mainly Robinson Paul) that had been using 9tailors, and raved about the experience. So I just went for it.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.

I did a three-piece, dark grey suit and custom white dress shirt. The experience was incredibly easy. Popped over to get measured at lunchtime one day, had a couple of other quick fittings, and walked out with an absolutely perfectly fitting set of items. The 9tailors staff was super helpful, always friendly, and I just immediately felt a trust with them, that put me at ease. I never worried once that the final product would be anything other than perfect.

What was the best part of your wedding day?

I can't say there was one moment that carried the day. The entire thing was amazing. Nothing really prepares you for how much fun your wedding is going to be. Having all of the people that are important to you in one place, drinking, eating, dancing and celebrating together, is incredible. And to share it all with the perfect companion (Erica obviously), I couldn't have asked for anything better.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?

Don't even consider off-the-rack. Your wedding day is about you, and everything that happens that day should be customized to your tastes. So why get a standard suit or tux from the store? Going custom allows you to have something that demonstrates your individual style and ensures that you'll feel like a million bucks on wedding day. And the fit...it'll feel like you were born in the suit.

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.

The shots in front of the Os Gemeos mural in Dewey Square all ended up looking so amazing. The silhouette picture though, that only has our shadows against the mural, is super cool. The colors, the light, the moment. And it's a testament to our photographer (OhKarina) that one of the best shots of us, doesn't technically have us in it!
