Memorial Day- Barbeques and Poppies

When you think of Memorial Day, what do you think of? I think of barbeques, and a nice three day weekend to kick off summer. But then I was thinking, what is Memorial Day really about?

After a bit of the usual web research, I discovered that not only is it a day in remembrance of those who have died in service for the nation, it also traditionally was celebrated with poppies. Hmmm...interesting. Moina Michael, a U.S. professor and humanitarian, came up with the idea to use poppies in remembrance of those who served by writing this poem:

We cherish too, the Poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led,
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies.

Moina Michael not only wore poppies but also sold silk poppies to friends and family to benefit servicemen in need. This Memorial Day, make a poppy-colored shirt in remembrance of those who have served the country. Or, go with that laid-back bbq-summer theme. Either way, 9tailors has a fabric to suit the occasion and your style. Check out some of our awesome new fabrics!

Graduate in Style- Volume II

Here of the next steps you've been waiting for! Check out the images below to see which items in the previous wardrobes have been kept, and which have been stored.

Step 3: Now that you know what you have and you've got it all in tip-top shape, it's time to assess what needs to be added to your collection. In order to do this, you'll want to assess the personality of your new workplace. Is it conservative? More relaxed? Creative? When in doubt, look up to see if your workplace has a dress code and read it. Also, recall how people were dressed when you went in for an interview.

Step 4: Now that you have a feel for what sorts of clothes you will be needing, make a list of items you own that fit these qualifications. Make another list of items which you would like to add to your wardrobe. Remember, when in doubt about what you should wear to work, it is always better to come slightly overdressed than under-dressed.

We Heart Your Shirt - Our favorites this week

Just wanted to share some favorite creations that have come through the studio.

Striped Poplin Shirt and Gingham Shirt
Both $100.00

I love purple and always recommend it in the studio for several reasons. First, it complements many colors; wears well with gray, navy and black bottoms. Second, it's not blue, but still hints at the color. Third, it's not pink, which many men try to steer clear from. It's a totally wearable color.

Graduate in Style - Volume I

Congratulations, graduate!

For those of you who will soon be starting your new job as an investment banker, consultant, or marketing analyst, etc., it is likely that those comfy sweats won't fly, even if it did for class (darn!).

Here are some step-by-step pointers for transitioning a wardrobe from college-chic to young professional.

Step 1: Take stock of your wardrobe. Is it mostly gym wear and flip flops? Did you collect some decent button downs or blouses over the years? Make a mental note of what you've got.

Step 2: Try on what you found. Does it fit? Does it drape nicely? Is it a relevant fabric and cut? Is it clean? If something needs to be dry-cleaned or altered, do it. You'll never wear something if a hem is slightly too long or if it is sitting in a bottom drawer getting wrinkled.

Take a look at the images below. If that were your wardrobe, what would you keep for workdays and what would be relegated to weekends?

Next steps coming soon! Keep tuned.
