Get 'em While They're Hot...

This just in! We are offering our limited edition shirting fabrics at 25% off! We've somehow procured enough fabric to make 3 or 4 shirts each. This means that you probably won't run into another guy wearing the same exact shirt as you...unlike all of these guys who are apparently wearing the same J Crew gingham shirt.

The fabrics are buttery smooth, two-ply, 120 thread count shirting material. Normally, these luxury fabrics are $159.00 per shirt, but now they're available to you for $119.25 for a limited time through the end of October.

Contact us at info@9tailors.com to schedule an appointment.

*Rules & Restrictions:
  • Additional customization options are full price
  • Applies for limited edition fabrics only
  • May not be combined with other discounts or promotions
  • Discount may not be applied to past purchases
  • Expires October 31st, 2014

Tsaiclip: Tie clips just got hairy

The coolest tie accessory around...

Yes, that is in fact a tie clip in the shape of a perfectly groomed handlebar moustache made a reality by Tsaiclip. Go ahead and revel in the beauty that is the modern fascination with moustaches.

Made by dynamic duo Eddie and Jennifer, this little gem will provide an extra sartorial punch to any outfit and as they like to point out, "avoid all sorts of tie mishaps." I had to ask them some questions to figure out how they thought of it, and what took them so long?

Our conversation went a little something like this:

Q: How did you get started, what gave you the idea of making mustache tie clips? Where was this gem of an idea hatched?

A: Jennifer attended a moustache party where basically everyone sported a moustache and she had a great time. Eddie watched a lot of Mad Men and started to notice tie clips and slim ties come back in fashion. Together they came out of a department store and somehow the brilliant idea was hatched. Then one fateful day, Eddie and Jennifer went to the “Festival of New Ideas” hosted by the New Museum on Bowery. One of the booths we came across was Kickstarter -where we were convinced was a perfect platform to see if an idea like this would stick. it’s been 3 weeks in and we’re happy to report it’s doing well!

Q: What is the moustache tie clip project? How can people get involved?

A: The moustache tie clip project is a crowd-funded project in which the people decide whether or not they want to back the project to see it through as reality. To help our cause, visit us here and follow these basic steps:

Sign-up or log-in to Kickstarter
(link on upper right)Select a reward level on the right
(more karma, more goodies)(achieve funding = moustaches for all!)

We produce and mail our ‘stache to your door
(you get charged at this point)

You get it, wear it, take photos, and share them with us!
(we’re super curious and will post them on our blog with your permission!)

Its also important to note that this is an all or nothing platform, meaning if we don’t reach our funding goal, no one gets charged and thus no tie clips will be sent. So please help us!

Q: Where can people purchase your clips? How much do they cost?

A: We are currently selling the moustache tie clips through Kickstarter until August 1 and are currently discounted to $25. These will retail for $35 after our project is funded and people will be able to purchase it directly off our website. We’ve also contacted some buyers in order to get retail presence as we feel they truly look better in person than online.

Q: Do you hope to expand to other types of tie clips? Maybe other types of mustaches?

A: Nothing is for certain at this point. We have some ideas of exploring different colors, styles, textures but are taking things one step at a time.

And there you have it, tsaiclip. Forging a new era in tie accessories. Need a shirt just as unique to wear with this new addition? Email us at info@9tailors.com to make an appointment. But, if you spent all your money supporting their cause feel free to check out the sample sale. More info on that here.

Three Piece Wedded Bliss

Here are some beautiful photos taken by Summer Street Photography of one of our clients on his wedding day. His three piece suit looks fantastic as do his groomsmen in their custom shirts. And, of course, the bride was stunning in her strapless gown. We love the laid back sophistication of Blair and Karen's wedding, hope it was as fun as it was beautiful!

The groom, Blair, looking great in his 9tailors shirt and three piece suit.

One of the groomsmen, George, looking fine in his 9tailors shirt.

The men relaxing before the ceremony.

The lovely couple, Blair and Karen, during the ceremony.

Blair and Karen after the ceremony.

The details.
All the best from the 9tailors team!

Groomsmen Gifts

Those burly men traditionally protecting the bride and her dowry are now throwing bachelor parties and embarrassing you. These are your groomsmen. Get them something good to reward them for a job well done- that is if she makes it to the wedding in once piece and not all your secrets were aired during their speeches before your closest friends and family. Here a just a few ideas.

For the rustic men- cattle branders. They can go wild branding everything in sight with their initials, as long as it belongs to them.

A customized dress shirt from 9tailors. Get them the gift of style while making sure they look great all lined up behind you. Add some special details to make it personal such as a monogram or contrasting fabrics.

Unique cufflinks. Although this gift is more traditional, you can't go wrong with a good pair of cufflinks. Try to get each groomsman a set that reflects their personality.

For the TravellerFor the Sailor

For the Jock
The goal should be to get them something they will actually use. Pocket knives, engraved flasks, memberships to local clubs or a beer of the month club are just a few more ideas. We might be partial, but a custom dress shirt is probably the best gift ever. Email us at info@9tailors.com to make an appointment with a style consultant! And don't forget about the referral program.

How To: Wear Colored Suits

Yesterday we explored suit options beyond black and charcoal. So the next logical step would be how to incorporate this new look into your wardrobe. Many of these options may be too wild for the workplace so keep in mind your professions feelings towards your attire before donning an electric blue blazer in the morning before that presentation.

These two suits are great for the summer months when the thought of dark wool suits already has you sweating. The first is for the man who loves pink, yet it may not work for the office unless you're the boss or its an easygoing atmosphere. The second, white, suit could be worn by anyone. Leave out the vest if it's not your style. The classic lines and subtle pinstripe makes keep it classic and current at the same time.

The contrasting monochromatic lapels are the defining part of these casual jackets. Only for the weekend, or casual Fridays. Pair the jacket with dark washed jeans or well fitting khakis.

No stranger to color Hilfiger has created some bold pieces. The first could easily work for the office. Swap brighter blues- not too bright if you want them for work wear- for those navvy suits that are indistinguishable from black. The second jacket could be paired with blue slacks and worn in the evening. Pair the jacket with jeans for a daytime look.

Points to Remember:
  • Impeccable fit- if your suit fits poorly, colors will call up images of the circus. Avoid this with custom made suits from 9tailors.
  • Lighter colors work better for work. If you are still uncomfortable with a pink suit, try working in some pink pinstripes on a light grey suit.
  • Break up bright pieces with textured neutral pieces.
  • Love the looks above? They do carry designer price-tags- to avoid taking out another loan rivaling a mortgage, make an appointment here for any suit you can dream up.

Get This - Get Pattern On Pattern at 9tailors

This whole week we've been talking about how to mix and match patterns together. When a client comes into the studio and wants to personalize his/her shirt, accenting the collar, cuff or placket with another fabric, I get so excited! It just so happens that mixing patterns together is one of my favorite things to do with clients.

We believe that mixing patterns can be for everyone, from the conservative to the trend-setter. You just need a little courage and faith...and of course, a helping hand from a 9tailors Style Consultant.

We've received some pretty fantastic shirts this week in the studio. Use these tips to purchase your next 9tailors custom dress shirt.

A blue checked shirt with a blue striped accent.
Tip #1: Choose at least ONE color that matches exactly. In the shirt above, the client really liked the blue checked shirt and wanted an accent fabric to go with it. We picked out the sky blue in the checked fabric and found a striped fabric with the same sky blue. As it turned out, the striped shirt also had navy in it which matched the navy in the checked shirt!

A striped blue and purple shirt with a matching purple accent
Tip #2: Sometimes subtle is the way to go. The client loved the purple and blue striped shirting fabric. But, he was afraid that a strong accent would be too much for work. We used the purple stripe as our inspiration and found a matching, textured purple fabric. Plus, the solid fabric lessens the appearance collar rings....

An green striped shirt with blue pattern
Tip #3: Choose colors that match. The last tip is the hardest concept to grasp as there are so many factors in play, such as your natural eye, personal style, light, hue, saturation, etc. Here the client really loved the apple green stripe. But, the client didn't want to use another green accent for fear that there would be "too much green." So, we helped the client find a related color, blue, as the accent. Go back to basics; use the beloved color wheel. Colors that are opposite each other go together. Colors that are side by side also work too! Here is an awesome piece on color coordination.

All three shirts designs are 10% off this week! E-mail us before next Friday, March 25 if you are interested.

Try It Out: The Scarf

With all the trends coming and going many of us simply ignore them and stick to basics. Whichever stark adjective you use to describe your wardrobe, try something different. Here is a little addition that can reshape your look and isn't major investment- a scarf.

The past few seasons the runways have been full of brightly colored, patterned, and striking scarfs. Try one with your tailored suit to break up the sea of black and blue that is your commute, try one with jeans to proudly proclaim it’s the weekend, or try one with your favorite dress shirt when you are going out at night for some added warmth.

Here are a few of our favorite examples.

Robert Downey Jr.'s patterned scarf is an perfect addition to a tailored suit in a neutral navy.

Beckham keeps it classy with a monochrome palate while maintaining interest through texture.

Hugh Jackman brings in some stripes for a more fun evening look.

Capturing Wall Street's Style - 3 Easy Tips

The movie, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, just opened in the theater. How polished do the characters look in the movie! I know it's easy to fall into the business casual trap (Dockers and a button-down shirt). But, why not elevate your look for this fall with three easy tips? The looks are effortless...I promise.

1. It's not about pin stripes and brightly hued shirts any more. Pick a gray suit with subtle texture and a white double-button collared shirt.

2. It's all about the cut. Choose a slim silhouette that is tailored through the body.

3. Finally, complete your look with a vest. Jacket optional.

In a recent WSJ.com article, costume designer, Ellen Mirojnick mentioned that Shia LaBoeuf's character, Jake Moore, wears six custom suits (some featured above) - each worth about $6,500. However, to get the above looks (without breaking the bank), visit us in our Boston studio. Contact 9tailors at info@9tailors.com or at 877.513.1898.
