Get 'em While They're Hot...

This just in! We are offering our limited edition shirting fabrics at 25% off! We've somehow procured enough fabric to make 3 or 4 shirts each. This means that you probably won't run into another guy wearing the same exact shirt as you...unlike all of these guys who are apparently wearing the same J Crew gingham shirt.

The fabrics are buttery smooth, two-ply, 120 thread count shirting material. Normally, these luxury fabrics are $159.00 per shirt, but now they're available to you for $119.25 for a limited time through the end of October.

Contact us at info@9tailors.com to schedule an appointment.

*Rules & Restrictions:
  • Additional customization options are full price
  • Applies for limited edition fabrics only
  • May not be combined with other discounts or promotions
  • Discount may not be applied to past purchases
  • Expires October 31st, 2014

How To: Pack a Suit Jacket

It's finally summer! It's time to gear up and unleash your inner adventurer. One of the worst things about travelling? Packing. If you're like many men out there, packing takes about 5 minutes. But, you might wind up with too few undershirts or too many socks. If you add a suit to mix, it adds another layer of tedium and challenge.

Lucky for you, we have just the trick when it comes to packing your sport coats and suit jackets.

Avoid ruining your valuables with this...

Four Signs You Have a Packing Problem. Packing Tips for those who have left their passport at home, cleaned up messy shampoo spills or stuff their suitcase too much! Via Independent Traveler

by using our step-by-step instruction:

  1. Grab your suit jacket
  2. Reach both hands into the shoulders of the jacket
  3. Ensure your hands reach to the end of the shoulder inside the jacket
  4. Fold the shoulders back to meet each other (as if clapping your hands together)
  5. Take one of your hands and turn the jacket inside out by folding it over the other shoulder (Keeping the lining outside keeps the fabric safe when packed)
  6. Ensure it's folded over neatly, meeting the other shoulder,
  7. Straighten it out
  8. Fold it half neatly
  9. Place neatly in your suitcase and hop on the bus/car/boat/plane!

Meet Tavon: "You should want to distinguish yourself from your competition."

Meet Tavon Wilson, a sharply dressed 9tailors client whose fresh take on style always keeps us guessing. While keeping a close eye on the trends but ultimately feeding his appetite for standing out in a crowd, this defensive safety will always try newfangled ideas. Seen above in a 9tailors velvet blazer, silver vest, and piqued black pants with just the right amount of sheen, Tavon tackles geek chic as effortlessly as he tackles for the New England Patriots.

NameTavon Wilson

Age: 23
Hometown: Washington D.C.
Current Residence: Foxboro, MA
Occupation: Professional Athlete for the Patriots

How long have you been a 9tailors client?
One year

Why choose custom?
As an athlete, you want your clothes to fit just right. Since we are normally bigger than the average person, sometimes it is hard to find the best fit for dress clothes, business casual clothes, and suits. That’s why I get most of my clothes custom tailored.

What inspires your style? Why?
I try to stay up on the latest trends featured in popular fashion magazines and websites, but I like to put my own personality into the wardrobe and designs.

What is your favorite piece from 9tailors?
My favorite 9tailors piece has to be my gray suit with lavender shirt and tie. It really stands out in the locker room and is different from all my teammates’ styles.

What would be your style advice to other men in your professional field?
My style advice? Be yourself and do not be afraid to go away from the norm.  You should want to distinguish yourself from your competition in the workplace, as well as in your fashion game.

Ya heard? Straying from the norm is excellent style advice, Tavon! Listen up, fellas.

Check out more pictures of Tavon below and visit our Facebook page here to see more of this photo shoot and other 9tailors ensembles. Like our page and pass it on!

    Spring Fashion Inspiration

    Alexander McQueen Spring 2013

With the winter weather reaching its very cold temperatures, we can only dare to anticipate the approach of spring. With warm temperatures comes new fashion trends for the season. Spring 2013 has some rather unique looks for mens suiting. One designer I thought that really stepped up the bar for mens fashion is Alexander McQueen.  Alexander McQueen for spring 2013 incorporates metallic hues, bold colors, polka dot prints and even giant dragonflies printed across suit jackets. I am excited to see how these prints and colors will be incorporated into springs ready to wear for men. How daring will you go with your fashion choices this spring? Would your favorite blazer have insects crawling across it? Or would your trousers have a shiny metallic look that matches your jacket's lapel? How ever you decide to dress this spring, one thing is for certain, feel free to have fun with your look, anything goes.

At 9tailors,  we can help you stay on trend this spring, by assisting you with your own personal custom suit design. Want to be bold in a pattern? We promise to help you stand out as the warm weather approaches. Email a Style Consultant at info@9tailors.com to schedule your appointment today!

    Jegga What? Jegga Who? Jegman!

Back in early September, we participated in Fashion Night Out on Newbury Street. Alongside several other wonderful menswear designers, we had a booth in a thrifty pop-up store assembled by the dazzling folks at UpTempo Magazine. Among the flurry of activity from the sidewalk to the stores, creative minds and stylish ensembles wandered the streets and joined together to showcase what's what and who's who in Boston fashion. Much to our pleasant surprise, Boston really turned it onyou tell 'em you're not the worst dressed city! Slowly but surely, Bean.

Amidst all of the talent-bursting people we worked with, we happened upon a dashing young man, Jason Eli Glover. His company, Jegman, designs and produces some of the hippest ties we have ever seenrife with personality, rich with colors and ridiculously clever in pattern. So naturally, we thought of our clients and how much they might love this collection and gots to thinkin'...

We proudly debut Jegman to the 9tailors studio, assorted ties available for purchase now! Learn more about the company and the owner below:

Jason Eli Glover pictured with the Fall 2012 Jegman collection

What is your full company name?
Jegman Inc. Simply put, the word ‘jegman’ derives from the initials of our Founder’s name, Jason Eli Glover. We added “man” to his initials because, well, that’s who we proudly cater to.

Tell us about your company and your products. What is your favorite item out of your collection?
Jegman is a new menswear brand that makes designer neck ties. We provide the modern gentleman with high quality neckwear that suits a range of personalities. All of our ties are original designs and made by hand. Our label takes pride in having crafted an affordable collection that offers subtle novelty, smart colors, a hint of charm and the ability to start conversations.

What was your inspiration? Why did you get involved in fashion?
We were inspired by the all too common ties men wear today. So instead we decided to make ties for the uncommon man looking to dress his personality. Our current collection captures the "boyish charm" most men seem to have forgotten. Our mission is to provide men the benefits of being fashionably unique.

How do you define style? What's your best fashion advice?
Style is personal, no different than a finger print... it's your identity. Our advice for all, match your wardrobe to your true personality. Once aligned, everything else falls in place.

What made you want to partner with 9tailors?
We love the 9tailors team and service offering! Also, we enjoyed meeting at the FNO event and learning about their overall presence here in Boston.

What is your favorite 9tailors item?
    Trench Coat

Check some of our Jegman faves below!!

    Weddings: Mike and Kadie

Yet another beautiful couple tied the knot in the past few months.  Our longtime client, Mike, came to us for his wedding suit and shirt.  Many modern grooms are eschewing the tuxedo and opting for more practical suits that can be used  often after their vows are said, as Mike did. This look is also a bit more complementary to the country setting.

Congratulations to Mike and Kadie.  And, thanks for letting 9tailors be a part of your big day!

A special thanks to Jennifer Bach for the beautiful photos.  You can check out more of her work, here.

If you're looking to shed some of the stress of wedding planning, let us know and we can coordinate the suits for the wedding party.  Send us an email at info@9tailors.com for more information.

Look good (and feel good!) in a bow tie

Bow ties bring personality to any outfit. You’ll turn heads whether you’re wearing a brightly patterned bow tie or a simple black bow tie. And now there’s an even better reason to wear a bow tie proudly: BowTie Cause.

BowTie Cause is a non-profit organization founded by Dhani Jones, former NFL linebacker and University of Michigan alum. The organization partners with over 30 other organizations, like the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, throughout the country to promote awareness, encourage philanthropy and support the mission of these charities. Dhani started BowTie Cause because he wanted to find a way to support his close friend, Kunta, who had been diagnosed with lymphoma cancer. Kunta had been the one to tell Dhani that, “If you want to be anybody, you have to rock the bow tie.”

Dhani did just that, and he started getting others to follow in his footsteps by rocking the bowtie to support organizations with the mission to help others. Each BowTie is thoughtfully designed by Dhani Jones and made especially for each customer. Here are my two favorites paired with some fabrics from the 9tailors collection:

St. Vincent de Paul Bow Tie

Share with us what you think about bow ties, or better yet, bring yours in with you to 9tailors. We’ll help you rock your bow tie with a custom fitted shirt, tuxedo, or suit. To make an appointment, contact us at info@9tailors.com.

Top 5: Must Haves from Stylist Lauren Antos

There are several different ways I can help men through personal shopping and styling. One way is a complete overhaul; revamping a closet and an entire wardrobe to better fit his likes, needs, lifestyle and physique. Sort of an "out with the old, in with the new" option.

Another service offered, is to help put together outfits using what he already owns while possibly adding a few new key pieces or accessories. I also offer to shop specifically for an item or accessory that he knows he needs but isn't sure of what exactly to buy such as, but not limited to, tie, shoe, or jean shopping. Services range from a complete wardrobe makeover to guidance and suggestions to strict shopping.

5 things every man should have in his closet:
A reversible leather belt; one side black and the other brown. There's a time and a place for a "worn in", vintage looking belt, but its definitely not with a suit or a crisp pair of dress pants. I suggest reversible because it "kills two birds with one stone" and makes it easy to never be stuck with a mismatched look such as a navy suit with a black belt and brown shoes.

White v-neck t-shirts. They are such a staple piece and are so versatile. They can be worn solo, with a casual suit, or under a leather jacket, blazer, or flannel. I suggest you opt for quality ones and leave the Hanes brand for the flannels and at-home lounging. Among my favorites are LNA and James Perse.

Nice outerwear. Whether it be a rugged leather, utility jacket or a sleek wool dress coat, go-to outerwear is a must. The fit is important as well as the shape, color, and fabric. You should pick something that fits your lifestyle and personality.

A perfectly tailored suit. A classic single or double breasted suit in grey, black, or navy. Fit, fit, fit is all I can say. If you have the means, the extra cost to purchase a custom suit is well worth it. If you go with a solid or a very subtle pin stripe, it will be easiest to mix and match shirts, ties, and other accessories.

A casual blazer and cardigan. Both can be thrown on over a tee or a button up and can be dressed up by adding a tie or scarf as well. They are both good layering pieces to have in your wardrobe and can be utilized year round.

Steal This Style: Matthew Gray Gubler

Keeping with the theme this week Matthew Gray Gubler has a style that makes traveling easy. He seems to have mastered the disheveled look, without looking too grungy. The loose ties and clashing patterns are all part of his charm. This model turned actor, he is better known as Dr. Reid from the show Criminal Minds where his on screen style isn't a far cry from his off screen threads. This photo of his off screen style, posted on his twitter, is slightly more quirky. Mismatched socks, an easy going leather jacket, worn in cords, and a t-shirt in a neutral color complete this look. His look as a relaxed feel, which is perfect for travel. Comfort is crucial. As Dr. Reid he is a bit nerdier, also formal. An imperfectly tied tie with a cardigan and jack purcells make for a less polished Joseph Gordon-Levitte vibe. Layering is also the best technique for getting the most out of the pieces you pack. When traveling, like Gubler above in Japan, bring one piece of outterwear. Bring your favorite leather jacket (assuming weather doesn't demand something more substantial) and pair it with your favorite jeans on a casual trip. Get yourself a versatile topcoat for those business trips. The bowtie is the perfect accessory for a formal, yet conservative, event when you refuse to be another penguin in the crowd. Blue is also an option for black tie events that demand traditional attire. Email info@9tailors.com if you need some help nailing down your style!
