Get 'em While They're Hot...

This just in! We are offering our limited edition shirting fabrics at 25% off! We've somehow procured enough fabric to make 3 or 4 shirts each. This means that you probably won't run into another guy wearing the same exact shirt as you...unlike all of these guys who are apparently wearing the same J Crew gingham shirt.

The fabrics are buttery smooth, two-ply, 120 thread count shirting material. Normally, these luxury fabrics are $159.00 per shirt, but now they're available to you for $119.25 for a limited time through the end of October.

Contact us at info@9tailors.com to schedule an appointment.

*Rules & Restrictions:
  • Additional customization options are full price
  • Applies for limited edition fabrics only
  • May not be combined with other discounts or promotions
  • Discount may not be applied to past purchases
  • Expires October 31st, 2014

20% off White Shirts! Now Through February!

Do you buy standard white dress shirts off the rack and wish they would fit you better? More often than not, you'll hit up a department store and search for a shirt according to your collar size. Then once you try it on, you find a ridiculous amount of extra fabric billowing around in the back! Gasp.

Are the shirt sleeves are too long for you? Too short? Or maybe the length works, but the sleeves in general are either too tight or way too loose! Hardly comfortable and mostly silly looking. Grunt.

Maybe you're a guy who finds store-bought dress shirts fit pretty well but aren't long enough to tuck into your pants. Either that or or they're too long and look like night gowns. Sigh.

In our humble opinion, every gentleman could use a crisp white dress shirt that FITS. And if the trend reports we research tell us anything, it's that white is in this season! But seriously, dude, it's always in. That's why we are offering our 100% cotton white or white on white textured fabrics at a discount now through February! Email a Style Consultant at info@9tailors.com to make your appointment and get measured, choose your white fabric, and pick out design options like collar and cuff style.

* Discount Rules and Restrictions:
  • Discount applies to full-priced 9tailors custom dress shirts in the 100% cotton range.
    • Discount does not apply to colors or patterns other than pure solid white or white on white textured fabrics.
  • Discount applies to merchandise purchased or ordered from now until February 28th, 2013
  • Discount cannot be applied to men's and women's accessories, sample sale items or shipping;
  • Discount cannot be combined with other offers or promotions.
  • Extras (monogram, contrast fabrics, special buttons) will be charged at full price. A la carte design options are not inclusive in discounted shirt.

Meet Dan: "Clothing should convey an understated confidence."

Meet Dan Romero, a stylish 9tailors client who waved goodbye to off-the-rack shopping long ago. As a young professional in a fairly conservative field, this handsome lad always comes to our studio brimming with design ideas that exceed trend-setting. He often creates classic yet modern garments that match his effortless look and cordial demeanor, as seen above in a 9tailors sports coat and shirt.

Name:
Dan Romero

Age:
25

Hometown:
Mansfield, MA

Current Residence:
South Boston, MA

Occupation:
Consultant

How long have you been a 9tailors client?
A year and a half

Why choose custom?
I'm a fairly lean guy, but with broader shoulders, so most off-the-rack shirts don't fit well. Regular cut shirts result in the dreaded "muffin top", whereas slim fit end up too tight up top. Same goes for jackets. I purchased my first custom shirt and jacket from 9tailors last fall and have been hooked ever since.

What inspires your style? Why?

I'm a big fan of "all-American style"—the right blend of classy, casual and rugged. Think JFK, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.

In terms of elegance in dressing, Luciano Barbera has it figured out. Not only does he make some of the nicest fabrics in the world, but he's probably the world's most elegant dresser. If you were to sum up my thinking on clothing in a quote, it would be this one from him: “True elegance has just one rule: simplicity.”

What is your favorite piece from 9tailors?

My midnight blue, gold-button blazer. It's darker than your run-of-the-mill navy blue version and it has a contrast white polka dot lining and double vent in the back. I wear it almost every day—and get complimented almost as often.

What would be your style advice to other men in your professional field?

Clothing should convey an understated confidence, so do the basics well: dark colors for jackets and pants; solid blues and whites for shirts; a great pair of (usually brown) shoes. Then, add some subtle personal touches: cuff links; contrasting lining; interesting socks.

Quite eloquently said!

How to: Transition from Summer to Fall

It's about that time of year when summer is slowly (or rapidly for some) coming to an end. Last week was absolutely gorgeous, last night was somewhat scary, but who knows what this week will bring? Considering the wacky weather we have experienced all year round, it can be hard to decide when to start transitioning your style from summer to fall.

1. It's still hot and reaches 80° sometimes.

2. You're probably ready to trade in your shorts for some trousers.

3. You're totally over summer.

So, how do you intertwine two styles and effectively straddle the season change? There are ways to preserve your summer style and subtly introduce your fall swagger before you make a firm decision which way to go (or the weather dictates which way to go). And beware of that Indian Summer heat wave, I suspect that will arise in very early Autumn. These guidelines will help you there as well.

Bottom wear

-Denim, while it is cotton, it's woven together very tightly and can hinder breathability, thereby you sweat unbearably. If you have a pair of jeans that have been washed a number of times and are more relaxed, they'll probably be a bit kinder to you on the warmer days.

-Chinos/Lightweight Trousers are your best friends. With all the fantastic colors of Autumn, you can easily find pairs that will help usher in the Fall styles. Check out Banana Republic or Gap, or come to 9tailors for an array of colors.

Top Half

-Long Sleeve Sweater or Cardigan. On those chillier nights and rainy days, a cotton long sleeve sweater will feel awesome on your body and look chic.

-Short Sleeve Shirt.  If it's hot out, go for a short sleeve shirt, preferably cotton. Consider patterns and colors.

Accessories

Scarves
-Okay, okay. This may not be everyone's style. But when looped correctly over a t-shirt or a long-sleeved light button down, it can look pretty fly. Tommy Boy pulls it off.

Hats

-Again, bear in mind fabric choice, there's nothing worse than a hot head, literally and figuratively speaking.

Jackets

-Try unlined or half-lined jackets with a bomber leather sort of look.

Summer Fabric Tutorial

It's starting to get seriously hot and muggy around here. What are the best fabrics for this climate?

Generally, naturally-derived fabrics such as cotton, silk, and linen are the most breathable in hot weather. Man-made fabrics such as polyester do not breathe as easily, causing you to feel wet and sticky all day.

For men, linen and cotton are both great options. Both fabrics are easy-care, and dry quickly. Lightweight, 100% cotton shirts such as the one below will keep you looking cool and crisp.

A great option for women is a silk-cotton blend. It is easy to care for (doesn't require the gentle care of many 100% silk items), and is very lightweight, flowy, and comfortable. Not to mention that it is a very pretty fabric! Cotton-silk blend blouses like the one below will be pretty and perfect for the summer. And we have a whole rainbow of colors to choose from!

Boston's Best of the New

This past weekend the Boston Globe published its top picks for new shops in Boston...and 9tailors was one of them! Read more here.

Anyway, on to equally important news...We have introduced a new line of 100% cotton fabrics to our collection! Solids, stripes, checks in a myriad of colors (my favorites are the soft pastel hues). I realize the barometer reads 16 degrees right now, but it's never too early for pre-Spring shopping!
