What are your names?
Bride: Erica DeRosa

Where and when was the big day?
The big day was October 20th, 2012. We bought out Sam's, the restaurant above the Louis Boston building right down on Fan Pier overlooking the Boston Harbor.

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
When you plan a wedding for late October in Boston, you need to assume that it's going to be a blizzard and plan for the worst. We had great outdoor deck space to use, but just couldn't depend on it, so we planned for an all-indoor affair. By some miracle, it turned out to be 70 degrees (at night) and everyone was outside the entire time. It was fantastic.


Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
I'm a slim guy, and I'm also not super tall. Off the rack suits just never had the right fit for me, and the idea of custom just seemed like the right thing to do for my big day. I had some co-worker friends (mainly Robinson Paul) that had been using 9tailors, and raved about the experience. So I just went for it.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
I did a three-piece, dark grey suit and custom white dress shirt. The experience was incredibly easy. Popped over to get measured at lunchtime one day, had a couple of other quick fittings, and walked out with an absolutely perfectly fitting set of items. The 9tailors staff was super helpful, always friendly, and I just immediately felt a trust with them, that put me at ease. I never worried once that the final product would be anything other than perfect.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
I can't say there was one moment that carried the day. The entire thing was amazing. Nothing really prepares you for how much fun your wedding is going to be. Having all of the people that are important to you in one place, drinking, eating, dancing and celebrating together, is incredible. And to share it all with the perfect companion (Erica obviously), I couldn't have asked for anything better.


What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Don't even consider off-the-rack. Your wedding day is about you, and everything that happens that day should be customized to your tastes. So why get a standard suit or tux from the store? Going custom allows you to have something that demonstrates your individual style and ensures that you'll feel like a million bucks on wedding day. And the fit...it'll feel like you were born in the suit.

The shots in front of the Os Gemeos mural in Dewey Square all ended up looking so amazing. The silhouette picture though, that only has our shadows against the mural, is super cool. The colors, the light, the moment. And it's a testament to our photographer (OhKarina) that one of the best shots of us, doesn't technically have us in it!

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
Weather was perfect. Ceremony was indoors and the reception was partially outdoors.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
Because I think it's more important to invest in something you will have forever, instead of renting. Once I decided to go in that direction, 9tailors was the only option.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
It was great—Kim, Sam and Alex treated us like kings.They kept us very informed, answering every strange question we had about the process. They were also very accommodating, they even went to my groomsmen in CT and NY to do their fittings. No other company will go that far for their clients, no one.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
Besides getting married? It was just a perfect day, end to end.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Custom is the best option. Don't worry about the price. The groomsmen will thank you for it later.

My favorite photo is the one of use with the jackets inside-out and we are all laughing. It shows how much fun we had that entire day.

Earlier this summer, 9tailors partook in a wedding event with Boston Magazine and the W Hotel, in efforts to showcase their beautiful event space. STOP GO LOVE!

Read below to hear Jason and Jared's take on capturing the rare, most cherished moments between couples and churning out cinematic true love stories in captivating short wedding films. 

How did you get into this business?

JASON: "I began to teach video to high schoolers, one of whom was my current business partner, Jared. Years later, after Jared attended media school, we decided to work together. We both love shooting video and working with people so it was a natural fit."

JARED: "I was moving back to MA after working as the Director of Photography at a small production company in Lindale, Texas. Myself and Jay would get coffee when I would come home and the subject of shooting video projects always came up. Little did we know that those side projects would turn into a full fledged wedding film company."

Can you describe your first project?

JASON: "The first wedding StopGoLove did was definitely a blessing. We called around and through friends, found a beautiful, amazing couple to shoot. Sara and Josh were, in many respects, dream clients."

JARED: "I honestly can't remember the day itself, only that I passed out from the physical and mental exhaustion at the end of the day. We didn't have the slightest clue of what the end product would turn out to be. We had never met Sara and Josh before the first time we pointed cameras in their faces.  We booked 10 weddings the next year based off that one video!"

What's the most frightening thing about filming weddings?

JARED: "Besides the bride? I'm playing, we've been blessed to work with some incredible couples so far. It's probably dropping a camera off a 15 foot ledge...wait, that was last year... " 

JASON: "Basically, you have one shot to do it right and weddings are so unpredictable.  This is the most important day of a person's life. There's a lot riding on your lens."

What do you look for to capture the essence of a couple? How do you cram so much footage into such a short film?

JASON: "It all starts with getting to know WHO these people are. The relationships we develop with couples are essential to the process. I also think that a wedding is so emotionally raw and genuine that, in a way, it's easy to capture who these people are and what their love is really about. At that point, it comes down to simply observing and documenting all the cool stuff that goes on throughout the day. As far as the trailer videos we do, we always have in mind certain things we'd like to see in that video, but in ways it's creating on the fly. It's art. Part of what we like about this job is the ability to freely create."

JARED: "When people truly love each other in a deep and selfless way, it's apparent to everyone. That's what makes our job easy, all we have to do is point the camera and shoot. People don't believe me when I tell them it's much more work to put together one of our trailer videos compared to some of the longer ceremony cuts that can sometimes top an hour. We often go into a wedding with a pretty concise idea of what kind of music we'll be playing to soundtrack the trailer, etc. A lot is mapped out in pre-production and by really getting to know our couples."

What do you notice about weddings with regard to how people dress? Anything stand out to you?

JARED: "It's so refreshing seeing a sartorial conscious gentleman at his wedding. First of all, it makes my job 10 times easier. Secondly, I'm tired of having to tell guys how to tie a bowtie or what the difference between a windsor and pratt knot is. Better dressed gentlemen make for much better photo and video, period. That goes for both the groom and wedding attendees."

JASON: "I think what I observe the most is how much a couple's wedding style reflects their personality. I think this is true of style in general. Clothing is art. Art tells a story. Clothing tells the story of you. I think that definitely plays out during a wedding, but magnified times a million. And, men accessorize at weddings!" 

How far in advance do couples need to book your services?

JARED:  "Much of what we do is based on building a relationship with our clients so the earlier we meet, the more creative and unique of a video we can get!"

JASON: "NOW… just kidding. To be honest, it really depends on availability and if we aren't booked we're always open to work with amazing, fun people. Typically though, couples book us at least nine months in advance, but sometimes even two years."

Fall Wedding at Harvard - Custom vest and shirt for the groom

We met Aaron last fall after he had done an exhaustive search all over Boston for a vest and shirt for his fall wedding. While he had already purchased a tuxedo from a local men's store, he wanted a fitted vest and a dress shirt that reflected his clean and modern style. A trusted friend (and a client of ours whom got married last July) recommended that he check us out!
