Where and when was the big day?
09/22/2012, Middletown, RI

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
Weather was perfect. Ceremony was indoors and the reception was partially outdoors.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
Because I think it's more important to invest in something you will have forever, instead of renting. Once I decided to go in that direction, 9tailors was the only option.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items.
It was greatKim, Sam and Alex treated us like kings. They kept us very informed, answering every strange question we had about the process. They were also very accommodating, they even went to my groomsmen in CT and NY to do their fittings. No other company will go that far for their clients, no one.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
Besides getting married? It was just a perfect day, end to end.

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Custom is the best option. Don't worry about the price. The groomsmen will thank you for it later.

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.
My favorite photo is the one of use with the jackets inside-out and we are all laughing. It shows how much fun we had that entire day.

Handsome lot, aren't they?
BOOM!
It's what's on the inside that counts.

Meet James and Emily!

As wedding planning can get awfully tiresome and unbearably stressful, we understand your needs as a couple to make everything run as smoothly and perfectly as you have always dreamt it. That's why we take time getting to know you and what you are searching for. We work with you to achieve the exclusive look that helps tell your love story. At 9tailors, we thrive on helping people design their wedding attire. Read below about James and Emily's experience.

Congratulations, Emily and James!

What are your names?
James Darragh and Emily Barrett

Where and when was the big day?
Bull Point, private home in Jamestown, RI on June 16, 2012

How was the weather? Was your wedding indoors/outdoors?
We lucked out with a picture perfect Rhode Island summer day. Everything took place outside: the lawn ran down to the water's edge, overlooking Narragansett Bay and Newport - it was an amazing backdrop for the wedding.

Why did you decide to go with 9tailors on your own custom design?
Our wedding was a labor of love - we hand-made absolutely everything we could, and our personalities came through in the small details. We wanted to put our touch on everything, and 9tailors was the perfect way to do that for James's formal wear. It was a lot of fun to customize the shirt down to the smallest detail. The shirt fit perfectly.

Describe your 9tailors experience and items
When we heard that 9tailors would be in New York City, we booked an appointment immediately. Samantha was a wonderful consultant - she guided us through the many, many style, color, and pattern options and helped design the perfect shirt. The step-by-step process was easy with her guidance... there were so many ways to customize the small details, and her expertise was spot on.

What was the best part of your wedding day?
Our wedding day was amazing - it was wonderful to celebrate with so many of our favorite people! For us, the ceremony was the best part of the day. It was great to stand up there together, overlooking the water, and to see our family and friends so happy for us. The BBQ dinner was pretty good, too and not even a drop of sauce got on the shirt!

What is your advice to other wedding couples thinking about designing custom suits or shirts?
Go for it! A wedding is the perfect occasion to go all-out. 9tailors makes the entire process special and easy. It is especially fun to re-wear the shirt, thinking back on all of the memories of our wedding day. This isn't our last 9tailors custom shirt!

Hey, it's his day, he does what he wants

Choose your favorite photo and tell us why.
We had so much fun taking pictures in the photo booth. It was a time to be playful and silly in our formalwear, and we loved seeing all of our guests do the same. We took this picture right before we hit the dance floor - the calm before the storm!

Before the dancing ensued...

Upcoming nuptials? Thinking about designing your own shirt or suit?  Garment turnaround time is typically five weeks. We offer rush priority for an additional fee, but we recommend having a consultation at least two months prior to your wedding date (to alleviate your stress and ensure the perfect fit!) Email a style consultant at customerservice@9tailors.com for any questions or to request more information.

Weddings: Vivi and Bayan

Congratulations to Vivi and Bayan! The groom and his groomsmen were outfitted in custom suits from 9tailors that captured the sophisticated elegance of their fall wedding.  Black suits with subtle pinstripes for added sheen were just formal enough while allowing the guys to get more use from them after the wedding.

Three Piece Wedded Bliss

Here are some beautiful photos taken by Summer Street Photography of one of our clients on his wedding day. His three piece suit looks fantastic as do his groomsmen in their custom shirts. And, of course, the bride was stunning in her strapless gown. We love the laid back sophistication of Blair and Karen's wedding, hope it was as fun as it was beautiful!

The groom, Blair, looking great in his 9tailors shirt and three piece suit.

One of the groomsmen, George, looking fine in his 9tailors shirt.

Get This: Unique Wedding Bands

Diamonds aren't just a girls best friend. A rock that beautiful cannot be restricted to the fairer sex nor should it scare you away- they don't need to be worn the Elizabeth Taylor way. Here are some tasteful options for the modern groom. Some are for those who are not afraid of a little carbon, others are more traditional, and some are just different.

Do some research and try a few on before committing. Despite the fact the bride gets all the attention for her ring, yours will also be on your finger for as long as you both shall live. Choose wisely! And since the rings will cost you both some cash, don't forget about 9tailors referral policy. Send your friends our way and watch your credit climb. Check ou

Deciphering the Dress Code

Ranging from formal to casual, wedding attire can be puzzling. Much of the time the only hint guests are given is a tiny phrase at the bottom of the invitation that indicates the dress code. Formal, semi-formal, smart casual, casual, and any other combination of these phrases may be the only guideline given. Clearly, without a firm grip on the definition of these terms they do you no good. So, here is a guide on how to decipher the invitations dress code descriptors.

Black Tie: The fanciest of the bunch, nothing less than a tuxedo here. Tradition says no tuxedos before 5pm but as traditions evolve a tux during the day should be fine given the dress code is formal.

Black Tie Optional: This is a slightly more casual form of black tie. A tuxedo should be worn if you have it, but those gentlemen without one in their closet should wear a nice dark suit with a clean crisp shirt and a conservative tie.

Semi-formal: This is probably where most weddings will fall. A suit and tie should be worn. No tuxedos necessary. Choose the color of your suit by the time of day and location. A beach wedding would call for lighter colors and lighter fabrics. A church wedding in the evening would call for wools and slightly darker colors.
Smart Casual: The wedding equivalent of business casual. It is on the more casual end of the spectrum, a nice button down and slacks should be worn. Please leave the jeans, no matter how nice and new at home. A blazer or sport coat also work and ties are optional.
Although rare, casual may be the order of the day for the wedding in question. We are all familiar with this type of dress. Most closely resembling your everyday wear although it is fairly rare for a wedding dress code. Jeans are technically acceptable as are shorts but to avoid being under dressed opt for a button down and some cotton slacks such as khakis or chinos.

Top 5: Budget Wedding Essentials

The cost to pledge eternal love is spiraling out of control. Most estimates place the average wedding around $24,000. This doesn't even include the honeymoon or engagement rings! Many couples don't have that kind of cash just sitting around waiting to be eaten up by centerpieces and linens so here are the top five wedding essentials that can save you sanity and years of debt.

1) The Venue: The wedding hall, the reception area, the church- these will be the biggest portion of your budget. Choose wisely. Look into hosting the wedding at a family members home. It will not only cut costs dramatically but will allow you to have more control over what goes where as opposed to a church or hotel. A familiar setting with fewer guests will also add a heightened sense of intimacy.

2) The Cake: Most couples probably wouldn't want to make their own cake. Not only are they under enough stress as it is, but it's a tricky thing to make a spectacular wedding cake that is edible as well. Look to alternatives such as individual cupcakes that usually end up costing less than the grand multi-tiered cakes traditionally at weddings. Just because you switched to cupcakes you don't have to switch to casual, check out the picture below of a cupcake masterpiece.

3) Invitations: Cut your costs but not your style. Invitations usually provide clues to your guests as to what type of event it will be. Dinosaur themed? The invitation would undoubtedly give off a casual and fun vibe. Black tie? Doesn't mean that your invitations must be made by pricey professionals. Doing a little homework will go a long way and save you hundreds of dollars. Try online tools or do the work yourself with a little help from your local craft store. From traditional to trendy check out wedding paper divas.

4) The Photographer: This is one area you should not cut corners on. Ending up with out of focus pictures from bad angles would not be worth the couple hundred dollars saved. Instead add a new point of view for relatively little cost- place disposable cameras at all the tables. These will let the guests capture other parts of the wedding your photographer may miss.

5) Attire: The bride is usually the centerpiece of the wedding, but make sure the groom looks like a million bucks as well! Rather than do it yourself- design it yourself. At 9tailors you can customize your tux, or suit, to your exact specifications all for around $550. Specific colors at your wedding? No problem, 9tailors can get your color and your fit perfect so everything fits together on the big day. Contact a style consultant here to make an appointment.

9tailors at the Beantown Bride Bridal Lounge

Last week, one of our Style Consultants, Alex, went to the Beantown Bride Bridal Lounge at the Commander's Mansion in Watertown to discuss everything from men's suiting trends to groom's wedding attire. We met some really amazing brides and grooms, including a couple who will be having a Halloween themed wedding in October.

Here are some photos from the event, taken by the fabulous Tyra Bleek. If you're in need of a wedding photographer, we highly recommend her work.

Fall Wedding in Buffalo Check

Last fall, two amazing Bostonians were married in the Berkshires. When the bride, Liana, (she's also the Managing Editor of the fashion blog, New Brahmin) approached us about their theme, ideas and vision, we were totally thrilled to be a part of their day. Liana wanted us to make the groom and his wedding party, vests and shirts with buffolo check accents. It's very befitting of their theme: Ralph Lauren Country.

Here are some wonderful shots of the groom, Mike, and his wedding party in our duds. Photos taken by the very talented photographer, Emilie, of emilie inc.photography.
